John 16.12–15

‘I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, she will guide you into all the truth; for she will not speak on her own, but will speak whatever she hears, and she will declare to you the things that are to come. She will glorify me, because she will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

Reflect

I love the fact that we are not alone in this thing called life, that the Holy Spirit that fills us can give us a direct line to God. Although, If I am honest, sometimes I struggle to discern what God is saying, and it feels like I'm furiously turning the dial on an old-fashioned radio trying to tune in. "Please God, say something!" Yet, there is something about trust too, that being open to listening is enough. God will speak when God will speak.

It is not easy to trust when we have an approaching deadline or an important life-decision to make, and sometimes, even if we do not hear guidance from God, we need to trust that the path we are on is okay. If we willingly take the hand of God, God will not maliciously lead us into a wall or ditch from which we cannot escape. So, today, even though we may not have the guidance we seek, may we trust in God's unfailing love.

Pray

Holy God, when we long for you to speak but cannot hear your voice, when we long to be led but feel as if we are wandering alone, help us to trust in you, to reach out our hand that you might take it, and place ourselves in your tender care. Amen.

Prayed times.
