Daily Bread
1 Corinthians 12.12-13
Just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all baptised into one body — Jews or Greeks, slaves or free — and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.
Reflect
Much of contemporary Western Christianity focuses on our personal relationship with Jesus, and yes, of course, we all have a relationship with God, but Christianity is not supposed to be a private or personal religion! We are all part of Team Jesus and have a unique role to play. For example, let's say your run a construction company and wish to build a house. It would be no use in employing only bricklayers or only joiners or only electricians or only plumbers! You need a range of people with different skills, but all part of the same team working towards the same goal. Well, God is working towards a world that is fully restored, redeemed, and renewed, and to do this God needs a church with many members, all playing their part and no one member is less vital or important than any other, and this includes you.
Pray
Holy God, thank you that I am a member of Team Jesus, and that I have a role to play in your ongoing mission in the world. Help me remember that I am not called to do this thing called life on my own, but surrounded by my team-mates, my church. Help me encourage and be encouraged, support and be supported, and today, may I play my part and do your will. Amen.
