A Prayer for Jamaica
Father in Heaven, Merciful and almighty Lord,
With heavy hearts, worry and helplessness, we come to you, prayerfully, to plead on behalf of the island of Jamaica, ravaged, flooded, and torn apart by Hurricane Melissa.
Lord, countless people’s lives have been shattered; their homes flooded, damaged or destroyed. People are missing, others have no shelter, food or water. And the roads have washed away in some areas, making it impossible for aid workers to assist. We can only imagine the anguish, despair and desperation that they and their loved ones feel, and the terror that they felt in the face of the hurricane and so we come in supplication to you, the “ way maker, miracle worker, the promise keeper, light in the darkness”, and entreat you to move mountains to help Jamaica!
We implore you, compassionate God, to make a way out of no way, and have the resources that Jamaica needs provided to them. Please move the hearts of countries who can help Jamaica to respond on a massive scale, and inundate them with food, water, shelter, building materials, medical supplies and love. Be their guiding light, be their miracle, be their strength and support.
Lord, with a disaster of this magnitude, only you can help. With faith and belief, we ask you to bless the people of Jamaica, and use this crisis to upgrade their communities and infrastructure. Help them to turn to each other to support each other, so that when you have guided them through, they will remember, and pay it forward with loving kindness. And then, seeing your hand in their survival, may they join us in praising you.
We thank you in advance of your intervention, Lord, and we thank you for bringing them through the hurricane. Please see them through the recovery.
In Jesus’ name, we pray.
Amen
