Tyte Team Roles
I have always been fascinated with questionnaires that help define personal and team roles, for example Myers Briggs, Enneagram, Belbin, Strengthsfinder, and APEST, and I would like to develop a web app — an online tool — that allows individuals to confirm their own God-given role in the body of Christ, and how they fit within the wider body — their local church or organisation.
To this end, I have been developing the underlying technology to create a web application that will enable individuals (by way of a profile) to answer questions to help them define their roles, then match with other profiles (in teams) to see how they work with others. This will help highlight strengths and weaknesses within church or organisational leadership teams.
For want of a better title, I call these the Tyte Team Roles and (a work in progress) they are as follows:
- Administrator – keeps an orderly account of systems and procedures
- Builder – uses their hands to shape physical objects and spaces
- Carer – helps others with their physical wellbeing
- Companion – journeys alongside others bringing them comfort and friendship
- Creator – comes up with new material or ways of doing things
- Designer – uses their creative skills to make beautiful or useful things
- Developer – puts plans into action
- Encourager – helps others with their emotional, mental, and/or spiritual wellbeing
- Feeder – ensures people are physically nourished
- Financer – gives money to support people and projects
- Fixer – sees something that needs doing and does it
- Grounder – sees the potential pitfalls and downsides to things and holds others to account
- Helper – likes to be asked to do things and directed in how to do them
- Leader – holds the vision and helps others stick to the plan
- Listener – takes into consideration the opinions of others
- Maintainer – works hard to ensure things continue to run smoothly
- Marketer – tells others about what is happening and when
- Perfecter – puts the final touches or flourishes to things
- Pioneer – likes to go places no-one has been before and takes others with them
- Planner – coordinates the timing and resources of future events or occasions
- Scooper – ensures no-one is left behind
- Speaker – enjoys public verbal communication
- Supporter – provides a prayerful presence for others
- Teacher – communicates knowledge and skills to enable others to flourish
- Visionary – sees how things could be arranged in the future
- Welcomer – introduces people to each other or to places
The idea behind the web app is that, through the use of an extensive (and easy to use) questionnaire, each individual profile will have a weighting in those 26 roles. e.g. 100% Scooper, 98% Fixer, 68% Builder, and so on.
As profiles can be combined into teams, I can use an algorithm to highlight areas of commonality between individuals and areas where skills or gifting are lacking, thus providing helpful insight into understanding church or team members and how they can work effectively in mission and ministry.
The team roles are based on a mixture of pastoral observation (over twenty years of church leadership experience) and church roles and gifts that are expressed in the biblical narrative. We would hope to emerge with a helpful working tool that can be used by individuals, the church, and Christian organisations.
