What is the opposite of love?

That picture is disturbing to me too. You hit the nail on the head- who could love or trust a God who would do what is depicted? Furthermore- Abuse on earth sensitises us to avoid abuse from everyone. Abuse from God? Too horrific to imagine for me.
In one (huge) picture that painting encapsulates the story of “ A Thief in the Night” the novel that traumatised me at 10 years old. That book made me fear God so deeply that I couldn’t sleep and I wanted NOTHING to do with God. Because even at 10 years old I knew I couldn’t be perfect like I thought The Bible was expecting me to be. Yet.
I longed for a relationship with Jesus, I prayed… and believed…but mostly stayed away from church.. I didn’t fit and couldn’t fit…

So incredibly grateful to have found you… God knew how to reach me… through a music video. So incredibly happy to be learning the truth about God’s character, and that we are all welcome! God is some kind of patient.
