Psalm 98.1–7
Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvellous things. His own right hand and his holy arm have won for him the victory. The Lord has made known his salvation; his deliverance has he openly shown in the sight of the nations. He has remembered his mercy and faithfulness towards the house of Israel, and all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Sound praises to the Lord, all the earth; break into singing and make music. Make music to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the voice of melody. With trumpets and the sound of the horn sound praises before the Lord, the King.
Reflect
Can you imagine a world without music? Music is so powerful because it affects every part of our being — our physicality, our emotions, our intellect, and our spirituality. This is why worship music is so vital to our wellbeing, because it positively affects our bodies, minds, and spirit.
Sometimes I go to a music practice or church worship feeling low, but often come out feeling refreshed, inspired, energised, and positive. The music, like a healing balm, has worked its way into me and has done its work, often without me realising it. Today, try and spend some time listening to some uplifting music — music inspired by God — that will touch the very core of your being.
Pray
Holy God, thank you for the gift of music that inspires us to dance, fills us with joy, focuses our minds, and helps us praise. Thank for those who lead and inspire us with their voices, instruments, and skills. Thank you for those who feed our bodies, minds, and souls by communicating your love through music. May I be further drawn into your presence through this precious gift. Amen.
